Dongcheng District Special Education School was established by combining the former First School for Deaf in Beijing and Dongcheng Intelligent Training Center in July 2002. As the only special education school in Dongcheng District, the school has been constantly exploiting its own advantages and potential and actively exploring educational laws, proposing the school philosophy of " Breaking barriers by love, rehabilitation by education, and harmonious development" of and the school purpose of "laying a base for the life-time growth and life of students with disabilities". The cross-shaped school pattern is constructed with the nine-year compulsory education as the center, pre-school education and vocational education as the vertical extension, and learning in regular classroom and community service as the horizontal extension. The curriculum system and educational model has been formed with the national curriculum as the main part, school-based curriculum as the extension, rehabilitation courses as the feature and individualized education as complementary forms. This further highlights the functional location and school characteristics of education, rehabilitation, training and service.

Over the years, with the loving care and guidance of leaders at all levels, the school has achieved great-leap-forward development. The school was conferred with the glorious titles such as the District Patriotism Education Base, the Advanced Unit with Learning Organization in Beijing, the National March 8 Red Banner Holding Collective and the National Advanced Grass-Roots Party Organization. The school was also awarded with the Beijing 2008 Olympic Education Model School, successfully held the national, municipal and district-level educational on-site meetings for a number of times, and exchanged experiences in the meetings. The teachers in our school have been awarded with honors such as National Minority Unity and Progress Model, Outstanding Class Teacher of Beijing, and Dongcheng District People''s Teacher Award. The school’s excellent school operation is fully affirmed by leaders at all levels and various social circles. More than one hundred media such as China Central Television, and Beijing Youth Daily exclusively interviewed and reported the school and teachers.

We have just gone through a short p period of seven years. Although she is still young, she has continued to enrich herself in the past seven years. This little album is condensed with the school’s seven years of development, carrying forward the pursuit of educational equity and the ideal of quality education. It shows that our teachers has propped up a green shade with broad love and unremitting efforts for handicapped students, protecting the fragile minds of students with the scientific method, guiding them in their healthy growth. The work of teachers looks ordinary, but they are creating miracles in education.

Children are just like flowers of the motherland, children with disabilities are just one cluster of the flowers, which are not gorgeous but fragrant and splendid. This album is dedicated to those hard work people who wish to contribute their unremitting efforts for nurturing these special "flowers" and for the cause of special education!
